Lecture by Gerald and Margaret Hull.

Gerald and Margaret Hull are artists and writers with a special interest in landscape and gardens. They have researched and visited over 100 shell grottoes across the U.K. and Ireland. The lecture features 18th century shell houses and grottoes in Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon, their changing function in the garden landscape, and the shell artists, often women, who made them. It also examines the shell decorative skills of contemporary shell artists. An illustrated publication called "Conchinilia Journey” compliments the lecture.
